Long before 4x4s and dune buggies, the camel was how people crossed the Arabian desert. For centuries, camels carried families, traders and goods between oases, and they're still deeply loved in Emirati culture today. A camel ride Abu Dhabi experience is a gentle, memorable way to connect with that heritage, and it's a favourite with guests of every age.
Whether you want a quick ride at camp or a longer trek over the dunes at sunset, we'll help you find the right camel experience.
Camel Ride Options
Camp Camel Ride (Included in Safaris)
Every one of our evening and morning desert safaris includes a short camel ride at camp. A handler leads your camel on a short loop, which is perfect for photos and first-timers. It lasts a few minutes and is great for kids.
Sunset Camel Trek
Want more time on the camel? Our sunset trek takes you across the dunes as the sky turns orange and gold. It's slow, peaceful and beautiful. Ask us about durations and prices.
Private Camel Experience
Book a private camel ride for couples, families or photographers. We'll choose a quiet spot, time it with the best light and give you as long as you need.
What to Expect
Getting On
Camels sit down to let you climb on. When they stand up, they rise back legs first, so lean back and hold the handle. It's a funny moment that always gets a laugh.
The Ride
Camels walk with a slow, rolling motion. It feels a bit like gentle rocking. Relax your body, hold the saddle handle and enjoy the view from up high.
Getting Off
The camel kneels again, front legs first this time, so lean back slightly as it goes down.
Is Camel Riding Safe?
Yes. Our camels are calm, well-trained and used to guests. Every ride is led by an experienced handler who stays with the camel the whole time. Children ride with an adult or under close supervision.
Camel riding isn't recommended for pregnant women or people with serious back problems.
Camel Ride Tips
- Wear trousers or a long skirt, as the saddle can rub bare legs.
- Hold on during the stand-up and sit-down moments.
- Don't stand behind a camel or touch its face without the handler's OK.
- Keep phones on a strap or in a zipped pocket.
- Ask the handler to take a photo of you. They know the best angles.
Our Camels Are Well Cared For
We work with camel handlers who look after their animals properly, with regular rest, water, shade and veterinary care. Camels don't work in the hottest hours, and rides are kept to sensible lengths. Happy, healthy camels make for a better experience for everyone.
Fun Facts About Camels
